A Statement from Artistic Director John Fisher

Welcome to Theatre Rhinoceros.

Since 1977, The Rhino has been telling queer stories before the world always knew how to listen. We have survived, evolved, misbehaved, mourned, celebrated, and kept making theatre through decades of political change, cultural upheaval, heartbreak, and joy. That is not just our history — it is our charge.

Theatre Rhinoceros exists because queer stories matter. They matter when they are funny, messy, sexy, furious, tender, historical, experimental, ridiculous, dangerous, and beautiful. They matter because our lives are not one thing, and our stage should never be one thing either.

As Artistic Director, I want The Rhino to remain what it has always been at its best: a home for bold artists, a gathering place for adventurous audiences, and a theatre unafraid to challenge power, taste, expectation, and occasionally good manners.

When you buy a ticket, make a donation, bring a friend, or simply show up, you become part of this living queer legacy. You help keep the work possible. You help keep the doors open. You help make sure queer theatre does not become a footnote, but remains loud, present, necessary, and alive.

We are glad you are here. Come see what we are making. Come laugh with us, argue with us, cry with us, and be surprised by us.

The Rhino is still charging forward.
