Put on your oversized shoes and big red noses for an evening of silliness and absurdity, performed by SF-infamous, professional clowns Sara Toby Moore and DeMarcello Funes under the direction of Colin H. Johnson. Moore, Funes, and Johnson make up San Francisco’s Thrillride Mechanics troupe, last seen in their 2025 original show The Mechanix at ZSpace and best known for being “irresistibly charming” according to the Bay Guardian, and for their “Olympiad level energy and craft” as described by the SF Chronicle; their newest production at Theatre Rhinoceros kicks off Rhino’s 50th season with a joyful bang, or whatever other cartoon noises you prefer. CLOWNISH, while exploding with slapstick and classic circus surprises, asks a serious question of modern theatre-going audiences: how do you maintain your happiness - your gayety – and sense of wonder when bigger, powerful forces want to take it all away from you?
